News Update
How's it going everyone? I'm just now recovering from an awesome birthday yesterday, so I'm doing pretty good. Here's the latest and greatest from the industry:
Nintendo claims that core gamers will have something to look forward too come E3, as they will be revealing new titles then. So what games will be revealed? Kid Icarus is a good candidate and Zelda is always a hope. Seeing as how the Nintendo rep refers to Mario Super Sluggers as a core game, though, makes me a little weary as to what they'll announce.
To go along with Nintendo, they have gone on record finally acknowledging that they have a storage space problem and are working on a solution, taking back their claim of geeks and otakus and addressing the problem properly. Or are they? Doesn't sound like an external hard drive is in the works so I don't know how effective the solution will be.
Sounds like Sony is on the right track to improve their internet gaming service. v2.36 for the PS3 finally implements trophies and in-game XMB. This means that you no longer have to exit the game you're playing in order to read messages friends send you. The trophies aspect is Sony's answer to Microsoft's achievements and could possibly increase the sales numbers on some games. Let's see if it works.
A new Sonic Unleashed trailer is out. I'm actaully a little worried. I never thought speed took precedence over everything else in Sonic. I mean, he doesn't even jump on the enemies to kill them. Oh well, at least the music is awesome.
There was a lot of leaked information Monday that could or could not be true; we'll have to wait and see. Until then, the idea of the integration of mii-like "avatars" for the 360 is a pretty exciting one. Gives your gamertag an even more personalized feel, which is always good.
Well, there you go, another news update. Some pretty fun speculation going on with all of the pre-E3 coverage. I can't wait till July.

Back for the first time
Well, here we are at my first blog post on my game-centric blog. I've always thought it would be a cool idea to open a video game store that's open all the time (I'm tired of driving to Wal-Mart at 2 am to buy a game), so that's where the "24 hour gamer" title came from. It also symbolizes my mentality as a gamer in that I'm always thinking about games.
I'll be using this blog primarily as a means to keep the GZ team up to date with quick, important entries but I'll also probably use it to rant on subjects every now and then or just post cool things that are going on in the gaming community. This means I'll have to come up with a system of titles for those of you who just want to check the updates, so bear with me while I work out some organizations. And with that, here's a quick update:
As you may or may not know, E3 is coming this July. While the format of the show has been restrained from what it used to be, it's still the number one show for companies to announce new systems and games; this one should be no different. IGN has a compiled list of games that are officially announced and are constantly updating it with new titles as they are announced. Looks like a strong list with lots of big name titles and some teasers in there (I'm looking at you, Capcom). Nintendo is noticeably absent, which doesn't surprise me, but it would be nice to see what they're working on. Hopefully they'll be added soon. See anything you like?
You know those two Capcom games that are unnamed? Think maybe Mega Man 9 could be one of them? This is definitely an exciting rumor for anyone who loved the old Mega Man games and has been disappointed with the onslaught of copy and paste titles they've been making. The game has supposedly been in the works, will be announced this year, will introduce new characters and will have online multiplayer. Live and PSN are the rumored, honored recipients of the revival. Hopefully with this game and Sonic Unleashed, good 2-D sidescrollers will be making a comeback.
Continuing with the software theme, LucasArts' awesome looking "Fracture" is getting its own webisode series. Here's the first one. The reason I think this is important is because I think this could revolutionize destructible environments. All the games I've played that promised destructible environments were only destructible in very limited ways. While "Fracture" reforms the environment rather than destroying it, which is equally as awesome, I think developers could reverse the technology and allow us to blow holes into any surface area we want. Then again, creating your own hill to jump over a wall might be cooler than blowing a hole in it and walking through it.
Like I mentioned earlier, E3 is also a time for companies to make hardware announcements. One video game analyst, Jesse Divinch, is predicting that Microsoft will announce a price cut on the XBox 360. Hard to tell is this is a possibility or not. The Pachster has already predicted a price cut during the holiday season, and one can only cut so many times. A prediction predicament for sure (I had to fit it in somehow).
Microsoft needs to be stingy with the price cuts, though, because they're still probably recovering from the Red Ring of Death debacle that plagued their first couple of years. Bryan Lewis is pointing the blame finger at Microsoft for the RRoD, claiming that it happened because Microsoft designed its own graphics chip instead of having it done by an ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) vendor; you know, companies that have established themselves by making said chips. Is it possible that the RRoD could have never happened if Microsoft hadn't tried to develop it themselves? Lewis thinks so. Either way, it seems we've forgiven the big M and continue to support them.
And there we have it. A pretty E3 heavy post, but that's to be expected since it's just around the corner. Thanks for bearing with me on my first post; I hope to come up with a way to streamline the update posts better so they're quicker and so you don't have to read my long ranting ones.
Rock on.
